Hello Gorgeous Photography | Wedding and Engagement and Family Photographer in Cape May, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood & Sea Isle City New Jersey bio picture
  • Welcome to my blog!

  • My Name is Rachel & I'm twenty-seven. I'm a wedding and portrait photographer in Cape May, NJ. I'm a dreamer, a big thinker, a wanderer and a Rachael Ray wannabe. Nothing makes me happier then a glass of wine on a beautiful summer evening. I'm addicted to wedding blogs, orange starbursts and laughing til I can't breathe.

I've been a professional photographer since 2009. I was recently able to add that i'm an "International Wedding and Portrait Photographer" to that, but all that really means is that wherever you go, I'm there. :) I've shot all over New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware as well as Mexico and Jamaica with Turks and Caicos and Canada soon to follow.

The best thing about my job is that I get to hang out with people in love ever day. I'm lucky to be in this business and quite fortunate to be able to call my clients my friends. I put my heart and soul into every photo that I take, I love surrounding myself with happy people & photographing it. Plain & simple.

Here, There and Everywhere | New Jersey Destination Photographer

One of my favorite bridal images basically EVER.  No photoshop was involved in the creation of this image.  :)  All the new Mrs. Mulhern wanted was an epic sparkler picture.  I think we delivered.  :)

I’m going to be off traveling the country for various things the next few weeks and I’m SO excited.

I’ll be in Vegas for a 20 Something Bloggers Convention called Bloggers in Sin City, organized by my dear friend Nicole.  I’m the official photographer for the event and I can not wait for some quality time with friends and some serious Vegas fun!  While I’m out there, I’ll be meeting up with one of my former Jamaica brides to update her portraits and working with a gorgeous sports writer to create some amazing new images for her site.  Oh, and I get to pretend i’m a fighter pilot for a day on Thursday morning.  Yeah, my job is pretty awesome.

After five amazing days in the City of Sin, I’ll be off to California to meet up with Tiffany of Tiffany McNutt Photography for some quality photographer BFF time with her and her little ones.  I’m wildly excited to hang out with her considering our friendship to date is basically built on texts, facebook chats, short phone calls and that one time we facetimed.  YAY for internet connections becoming real life connections!   Also, it’s been too long since I was in my favorite state EVER.  Granted, this time i’ll be in the desert (Palm Springs) but i’ll take what I can get.

On the 24th I will be back in NJ for the day for a family shoot and an EPIC bridal shoot that couldn’t be rescheduled ever, not that I would have wanted to.  :)

Then on the 25th I’m headed back out west to Kansas and on the 30th I’ll be driving from Kansas, right smack in the middle of the country home to NJ with a friend.

Good times, my life.  :)  I will be working while I’m away, responses will just maybe take a few hours or a day instead of being pretty instant!  Please bear with me with the craziness of the next two weeks!

Ed + Jess | Ocean City New Jersey Wedding Photographer – Ocean City Yacht Club

On May 3rd, I met up with Jess to do our final walk through of the venue, and I can’t lie… we were both a little scared.  The forecast was calling for rain and we were talking about ways to move the ceremony inside.  I cracked my eyes open on the morning of the 5th, looked out and saw sunshine, did a quick check of the forecast and did a bit of a squeal in celebration because I knew Jess would get her beach wedding.

Jess and Ed live in gorgeous Hawaii where Ed is stationed with the Army.  Jersey will always be home and they planned a gorgeous ceremony on the beach in Ocean City, close to where Ed’s parents have a summer home.  The details of this wedding were completely amazing.  Jess is a wedding planner in Hawaii and you can tell.:) The day went off without a hitch thanks to two of my favorite ladies in the world, Kristen and Jodi from Bel Momento.  I can’t say enough about the importance of hiring a planner and I can’t recomend this team enough.  Every time I find out we’re working together I breathe a sigh of relief.  Anyway.  From start to finish, this day was absolute MAGIC.

I adore these two.  Seriously, the love they have for one another is something so rare, and i’m not just saying that for the sake of a blog post.   Look at the way that Jess looks at Ed.  It sends chills right down me.  They have an easy way about them, a comfort that can only come after being with someone for a while.  I wish these two all of the happiness in the universe as the officially start their lives as husband and wife in paradise.  Jess and Ed, thank you both so much for letting me into your lives, allowing me to capture your day and for just being generally amazing people to hang out with.  Love you both!!

Have Passport Will Travel… A Dream List | International Destination Wedding Photographer

Chris and Darrell
Negril, Jamaica 2011

I’ve been SO fortunate in my short time in business to be able to shoot weddings in Jamaica (more than once) and Mexico.  This June, I’ll be shooting at the Michigan State Wedding Chapel, July I’ll be traveling to Vancouver, BC to shoot at the Rockwater Secret Cove Resort and in August I’ll be shooting in San Francisco.  Blessed is an understatement.  I was bitten by the travel bug at a very young age and I’ve been all over this gorgeous country.  It’s truly awesome to combine my love for travel and my love for creating beautiful photographs and I’m still in awe that this job of mine allows me to combine the two so beautifully.

I was told once, that putting something out into the universe makes it real, forces you to obtain those goals you set quietly for yourself.  So here goes nothing.  If you know of anyone getting married in one of these places or if you yourself are getting married in one of these places, I’d be incredibly honored to be the one to photograph your day (or days, because let’s be real here… the awesome thing  about destination weddings is that the party gets stretched out over a few days!).  If you happen to refer someone my way for this, I will be forever grateful and I’ll probably squeal like a little girl and give you free pictures for life.  Ha!

Quite the list, right?  I dream big, what can I say.  So here’s the deal.  Getting married in a place listed above or somewhere equally awesome?  NO CHARGE.  Seriously.  Just pay travel expenses for myself and an assistant (flight, a place to sleep, food.  My second shooter and I don’t mind getting cozy and sharing rooms.  Haha.) and that’s it.  You will get unlimited coverage for however long you choose to have me there.  I don’t shoot on the day I arrive or the day that I leave just so I have time to clean all of my gear and get things settled, but other than that?  UNLIMITED.  You want rehearsal coverage?  DONE.  Wedding coverage?  I’ll be there the moment your feet hit the ground.  Trash the dress?  You bet I’ll be there.  Your whole family is going out on a booze cruise?  My camera and I want to come too!  It’s an awesome way to not have to worry one little bit about any part of your trip not being documented.  You get EVERY SINGLE IMAGE that turns out.  No limit.  Full resolution with a print release.

I have lots of experience traveling with my gear, shooting in humid and hot conditions and rocking it out far from home. I have crazy industrial luggage to bring all of my gear to where you are, I have back ups of my back ups if anything goes wrong and I know lots of amazing tips and tricks if you’re a destination bride like where to score amazing flowers no matter where you are, how to find freeze dried rose petals or eco friendly confetti, how to get your dress on a plane, how to hire a travel agent that doesn’t cost you a dime and is a god send… I’ve dealt with it all and I LOVE IT.

Often times resorts and places where destination weddings are common try to insist you hire their mediocre photographers for an astronomical price and that’s so crazy to me.    The prices are so high because they try to make themselves your only option.  9 times out of 10, you could bring me along for unlimited coverage for less than it would cost to hire a photographer there for just one day.  Don’t leave your memories to some random person with a Kodak certificate please?

In short?  TWO photographers, awesome photos, unlimited coverage for the price of two plane tickets, a hotel room and food if it’s not an all inclusive resort.  AMAZING right?  I know, I know.:) It’s my hope that by putting this all out there, by handing it over to the universe… I’ll be able to check off a few of these amazing locations in 2013.  <3

Etsy Wedding Wednesday – Sign Me Up! | Cape May Wedding Photographer

One big thing I hear from brides is that they want their wedding to be personal.  There are lots of different ways to add bits and pieces of your personality though out your day and signs are one of them!  I’m a huge fan of distressed, vintage, wooden signs.  I own a big wooden ampersand and a distressed wooden cut out of the word “love” that I used to bring to sessions with me all of the time and when I was reorganizing my spare room the other day I found them and remembered how much clients loved them!  So this weeks Etsy Wedding Wednesday is all about ways to personalize your day by adding SIGNS!

I love that none of these signs are cheesy or over the top, they just add a little something something to the pictures!  Some signs are funny, some are cute, some are great for thank you cards, some are just there to add that pop of something special.  They are all so awesome and fun to incorporate on your day or even at your engagement session!  A little touch of vintage mixed into your shoot is always so fun!

Chris + Melissa – Waiting for Savanna | Cape May New Jersey Maternity Photographer

Maternity sessions are always so much fun to shoot.  I love capturing the love between a soon to be Mama and Dad.   It’s such a special time, filled with so much anticipation and excitement.  Melissa has had her session booked since the fall and we’ve been anxiously awaiting the day when we could finally meet up and capture some images for them to remember this time in their lives.  We started out at Flecks Ice Cream (THANK YOU LEIGH!!!  We love you!:)) and just went to a few of the most unassuming little spots a stones throw from there.  It’s kind of amazing what you can find in your own neighborhood!

Chris and Melissa, it was so much fun hanging out with you guys for a bit.  You are such a fun couple (especially when throwing sea gulls is involved, haha!), you’re going to be pretty amazing parents to little Savanna!
